Study: Alcohol consumption may increase breast cancer risk

According to a study published Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association, as few as three to six glasses of wine a week increased the chance for women to develop breast cancer.

The research found that the risk of cancer rose with the amount of alcohol consumed, with the best measure of risk being a woman's cumulative lifetime alcohol consumption.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, chief medical correspondent, joins American Morning today to explain the study and what it means for women's health.

Measles cases on the rise – CNN's Elizabeth Cohen explains why

Global measles cases are spiking. There have been 220 cases of measles so far this year in the United States – more than triple the usual number. During the first half of 2011 in Europe, there have been over 26,000 reported cases of measles.

What can go wrong during an MRI scan? Elizabeth Cohen explains

More people are getting MRI scans than ever before. The procedure can be lifesaving when done properly, but when used improperly, the scanning machines can burn patients, send objects flying, move around pacemakers, and cause hearing loss.

There is no federal regulation on the operation of the machines, so the FDA is continuing a workshop today on how to prevent MRI accidents.

On American Morning today, Elizabeth Cohen, senior medical correspondent, discusses what can go wrong during MRI procedures and explains what empowered patients can do to when getting a scan.

Should boys get the HPV vaccine too? Elizabeth Cohen explains new reccomendations

Medical experts are expected to vote today on a proposal that boys should get the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as a part of their routine immunizations.

The vaccine prevents cervical cancer as well as genital warts, anal and other cancers that are caused by HPV, which is commonly spread through sexual contact. The shot is already on the Center for Disease Control's vaccine schedule for girls and it has sparked some controversy.

Elizabeth Cohen breaks down the vaccine recommendations on American Morning today, explaining why the medical community is considering giving it to boys.

New study links BPA exposure in pregnancy and behavior problems in young girls

BPA is a chemical that is found in everything from water bottles to cans of peas. Now researchers believe that the chemical could be causing behavioral problems in young girls. 

A new study published in the journal Pediatrics found that girl toddlers exposed to BPA before they were born exhibited worse behavior at age three than those that didn't.

Ali Velshi and Alina Cho talk this morning with CNN Senior Medical Correspondent Elizabeth Cohen to discuss the study's findings, and get some tips for how pregnant mothers can protect their children from BPA.
