Rep. Paul Ryan: Two failed budget bills in Senate show progress

Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans in the Senate were able to pass budget bills Wednesday. The bills functioned as tests to see where each party stood on government spending.

Muslim-American Rep. Keith Ellison to testify at Rep. King's hearings

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) will be holding hearings on the radicalization of Muslim-Americans Thursday, but critics say the hearings are putting Islam on trial.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim-American elected to Congress, has said the hearings unfairly target American Muslims. He will testify at Thursday's hearings.  Rep. Ellison talks to American Morning's Kiran Chetry.

Father goes to White House to fight bullies in son's honor

The President and the First Lady are taking on bullies at the White House Anti-Bullying Summit Thursday. The summit will bring experts, Administration officials and the First Family together to address bullying in schools.

Bullying affects approximately one-third of all school-aged children each year and Kirk Smalley knows this first-hand; his 11 year-old son Ty was a victim of bullying and committed suicide in May, 2010. Since his son's death, Smalley has been speaking to students across the country, sharing his son's tragic story in hopes of bringing an end to bullying.

Kirk Smalley will be at the White House Anti-Bullying Summit Thursday and will be meeting with the President and First Lady. Smalley talks to T.J. Holmes about his son's story and his mission.

King: "The overwhelming majority of Muslims are outstanding patriots"

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) will be holding Congressional hearings on home-grown terrorism Thursday, but critics say the hearings are putting Islam on trial.

Rep. King says, he wants Americans "to realize the extent to which Al Qaeda is attempting to radicalize within the Muslim-American community" and also says he "the overwhelming majority of Muslims are outstanding patriots".

Wis. State Sen. Jon Erpenbach: "I wish we could be home right now"

More than two weeks after he and his Democratic colleagues fled Wisconsin to avoid a vote on the state budget, Wisconsin State Senator Jon Erpenbach remains in Chicago.

The Senate Minority Leader Mark Miller sent a letter to Gov. Scott Walker and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald asking to "resume serious discussions" Monday but Gov. Walker responded saying Sen. Miller is not open to negotiations. Is there a rift among Wisconsin's Democrats? When will they return home? Sen. Erpenbach talks to T.J. Dearborn, Mich. mayor 'very concerned' about Rep. King's hearings

Jack O'Reilly, Jr. is the mayor of Dearborn, MI, a city with one of the largest Muslim populations in the nation, and says Rep. Peter King is exaggerating the threat of home-grown terrorism.

Rep. King (R-NY) has said he is holding the hearings because of a concern Muslim Americans aren't doing their part in fighting the radicalization of other American Muslims but Mayor O'Reilly says he's very concerned. Mayor O'Reilly speaks to American Morning's Kiran Chetry about the Congressional hearings slated for Thursday.
