American Morning viewers were adamantly opposed to Bill Bennett’s commentary about the Obama Administration’s first 100 days:

  • Maxwell: Who is this Bill Bennett and who cares about his "opinion" He is out of touch with 2009. We do not care about these old fat angry homo hating jesus freaks Republicans. Its time for a new Republican Party
  • Cox: People like Bill Bennett and all the republicans spend all their time criticizing the president’s methods have only 8 years of failed economic and foreign policy as a track record and have no credibility whatsoever. They are the ones who need to lookout in the coming 100 days.

What do you think? Is the Republican Party out of touch? Is it time for a new Republican Party? What would that look like to you?

Small airport funding received mixed reviews, with pilots and those in rural areas supporting the measure while others “would like to see Mr. Porky Pig justify that to a mother of three that has real struggles!”

  • Tim: Your story about the Murtha Airport was about wasteful spending on airport projects. As a resident of the US territory of Guam and a licensed pilot I can tell you without a doubt the airport money is needed here. Of the two runways, only one is operational due to large cracks and potholes! Please try to report more responsibly and realize some of the stimulus money going to these airports is warranted.
  • Amber: I just finished watching a segment about the little tiny airport getting A LOT of money they obviously do not need. All the while, my husband works 14hr or more EVERY day but Sunday, I work full time myself, and we do good to stay just above the red, so far. I am starting school in the fall, and the pressures and stress we go through on a daily basis are real problems, not repaving a runway that is back up for one that doesn't get used very often. Don't even get me started on the $8M empty tower!! I would like to see Mr. Porky Pig justify that to a mother of three that has real struggles!

Should small airports receive a stimulus, as the first viewer believes, or do you feel more as viewer two states, that “Mr. Porky Pig [needs to] justify that [funding] to a mother of three that has real struggles”?

Perez Hilton’s rant against Miss California captured the spotlight on American Morning. Most felt Miss California was justified for standing up for her beliefs. Others felt the presentation of Mr. Hilton was biased.

  • Marilyn: At some point in time people have to stand up for what they believe. I give Miss California all the credit that her accuser does not give her. Just because he believes what he believes does not make it right. It actually show he does not read the Bible, she does and I stand up right next to her and Thank her for standing up for what she was taught. I am so surprised that Mr. Trump hired someone like he did to be a Judge with such a small mind. YOU GO GIRL.
  • Linda: You Go Girl! You are what our Country needs. A strong role model who stands up for his/her beliefs with beauty, grace, and kindness. God bless you!
  • Decobray: Your report on the Perez Hilton/Miss California this morning turned my stomach. The obvious bias you put in the report... the evil gay against the poor christian woman is worthy of a Fox News story, not CNN. The woman told Mr. Hilton he was a second class citizen of the US on national television, but when he calls her a dumb b**** on his website, you liken him to a cyberstalker that killed a woman. Tabloid television at its finest. Between the right-wing, Obama-bashing slant you people have shown lately, and the fact that Fox News is actually more vile than your reporting, leaves me with no one to turn to for unbiased news. Thanks a lot.
  • Mrs. Lou: Miss California probably belongs to one of the Southern Baptist Convention churches who have used our TVs and radio's for the last 25 years to dehumanize gay people and trash women. As you know, these churches have used the same tactics that Hitler used when he ranted against liberals, Jews, abortion, gays and other undesirables. Hitler rounded then up and sent them to concentration camps and gas chambers. These radical so-called Christian groups are no better then Hitler.

Who do you believe was correct in this argument, Miss California for standing up for her beliefs, or Mr. Hilton, for demanding his rights as a citizen of the United States? Tell us your side of the story.

Monday's American Morning viewers sounded off on a host of topics. Ron Paul’s interview on Texas secession was received by many as far-fetched. Others thought it wasn’t such a bad idea.

  • Cox: I can't wait for Texas to secede then they can take over the Iraq and Afghan wars created by their leading citizen Geo. Bush. They can also take over responsibility for immigration with Mexico and the drug wars included. They are complaining about high taxes; wait till they discover that somebody has to pay the bills. Tthey remind me of a teenager who wants to move out on his own because their parants are too restrictive. I think you can just chalk it up to Republican lunacy.

So, would Texas be right in thinking that a move to secede from the United States is the right action for their state? What do you think about such comments? Is it treason or do you feel that such a move would allow them great power over their concerns?

Monday’s American Morning viewers were indifferent to the Republican’s response to President Obama’s handshake with President Hugo Chavez.

  • Ralph: I think it's about time we started talking to some of these other leaders. As far as the negative reaction for the [Obama-Chavez] hand shake, I think this is just [a] typical Republican [reaction]. Bush IS the devil and it's time we moved past that crap.

What do you think? Was President Obama right to shake the hand of President Chavez, who is known to have a negative opinion of the U.S.? Do you believe President Obama has been too apologetic about the U.S. in dealing with international leaders? Are we losing our “self-respect” as a nation or does Mr. Obama’s “listening” approach allow us to have greater engagement with the world?

The reaction to the idea of lifting sanctions with Cuba was seen as long overdue. Viewers felt that trading with Cuba would be the same as trading with China, a country not known for allowing “their own people human rights.”

  • Ron: I believe the time has come to lift all sanctions against Cuba! If we allow travel and trade with other countries such as China, whom we cannot trust and do not allow their own people human rights, why should we continue to allow the Cuban people to suffer! Enough is enough already! Cuba is no threat to us but can be if allowed to be taken in by other countries not friendly to the USA. Shame on America for letting this continue for so long!

Is the U.S. overdue in mending relations with Cuba, since we have engaged with China as a trading partner? Do you believe sanctions work or do they simply harm the people of a country more than its leaders? What do you think about the numerous changes Mr. Obama has recently made concerning Cuba? Is it enough or too much? Let us know your thoughts.

On Tax Day 2009, American Morning viewers offered various opinions on the “Tea Parties” being held throughout the country.

  • Bill: Please report on the organizers of the "tea parties". If these are the same people who stood silent or cheered while Pres. Bush borrowed and spent us into bad trouble, please point out their intellectual dishonesty
  • Mary: The "tea parties" are not a Republican outrage, This is a "grassroots movement" of many kinds of people who are totally fedup with the trash that radical Washington is "dishing out"! It is evident that CNN is "in the tank" for Obama, yesterday, today and tomorrow, but this time people are not going to believe your false reporting on these "tea parties"! I hope that this event gets the message to the baffoons in the White House!!!! We, the people have had it, UP TO OUR EYBALLS!!! We are not going to take it ANYMORE!!! And the Obama Administration think they are going to stop these "tea parties" with more lies on the media? And they call us "radical right", because we are trying to stop corruption? Give me a break – no socialism, no markism, no communism in AMERICA!!!
  • Wendy: I noticed that CNN branding "Tea Parties" as a republican project. I'm a Dem and attending today. This is about "Too Big Govt". I was very critical of Pres Bush in the same manner. I' enjoy CNN but seems you now always put every debate in Dems v Repub context. The world is not that simple
  • JR: I'm wondering if there are any actions being taken to stop these tea parties from polluting American waterways. I'm concerned about the impact dumping large quantities of tea in the waterways will have on the ecosystem.

How do you feel about the first viewer’s (Bill’s) statement, wondering if the “Tea Party” protestors are the same ones who gave President G.W. Bush carte blanche to “spend us into bad trouble”? Are the “Tea Parties” just the Republican Party’s attempt to rebuild its party or is this truly a “grass roots” movement meant to protest “big government,” as the two center viewers’ (Mary and Wendy) remark? And what about the environmental concerns the last viewer (JR) expresses? Let us know what you think. Did you participate in any “tea parties” today? Share your experiences with us.

On Tuesday, AM viewers voiced their enthusiastic approval of marijuana legalization. The few dissenters lobbied fervently against such change:

  • David: The best thing would be to legalize pot. It takes it out of the hands of the drug lords that deal the harmful drugs like Heroin, Cocaine and meth. Plus it can be taxed and that is fair. Nobody has EVER overdosed on pot! Anyone that disagrees with this is ignorant of the issue. You statement that pot is a big part of the Mexican drug trade is untrue. Most is grown in the USA or B.C. now.
  • Berotte813: I am truly angry that anchors would even mentioned to legalized drugs. Legalizing would be chaos. If Kiran Chetry for example is under the drug influence, do you think she would be able to deliver the news properly? She propably would hallucinate about the camera man being a bear or a snake. In short, people with influence of drugs are fatal for the society. People at work would be like zombies, talking, walking, flying, and killing people is just going to be normal. NO!! is my answer.

What’s your take on the argument in favor of drug legalization? Is it the best way to solve our deficit issues and get farmers working again? Do you believe that law enforcement officials want to keep drugs illegal to provide “job security” for themselves? Are you in agreement with the second viewer above who worries that people will be come “zombies”?

The segment on the supposed rift between President Obama and Vice-President Biden was angriy received by viewers:

  • Sharon: Unbelievable. You manufactured a whole segment on the vice president of the United States based on an SNL skit and a comment/lie made by right wing buffoon Karl Rove. The News You Can Trust. Riiigghhttttttt. No wonder your ratings are in the toilet.
  • Nels: What was the point of your segment that there is a rift between Biden and Obama? There was not even close to being any evidence presented of it. You might as well instead have included a segment of Joe Biden robbing a bank. You would have had as much evidence. And how could you include a segment of Karl Rove accusing Biden of being a liar without including a disclaimer of Karl Rove's own problems of telling the truth. You do recall that he had to go to a grand jury 5 times to get his story straight, dont you? How do you expect us to take CNN seriously when you put out rumours as facts?

How did you feel about the segment regarding the “rift” between President Obama and VP Biden? Do you believe such an issue exists or are you in agreement with the viewers above that the problem is “manufactured” by the media or right wing conservatives?

Lastly, the segment on other countries’ tax structures was blasted by the audience:

  • Jay: Come on Am Morning You guys can do better than this can't you? Most of the countries that you listed that pay higher taxes provide a lot more services or better said, The people from those countries get more for their buck than We do. From the World class Free Colleges to health care, vacations, pensions, retirement All kind of services for their buck. And note that these countries are healther, smarter, and more productive, than Americans are. I mean, tell the whole store if you are going to tell the story, or is that too much truth reporting for CNN?

Do you feel Americans pay too much in taxes for the services we receive? Is the tax stucture in our country unfair? Would you be willing to pay substantially more in taxes if you could be certain of receiving such services as free college and health care?
