American Morning viewers eagerly expressed their opinions about President Obama’s second press conference in office. Most were very supportive of the president’s agenda, given his limited time in office:

  • Sheldon – I am no economist, but President Obama has been in office for a little over two months tackling a problem eight years in the making. The least Republicans can do is put their heads together to help find solutions to the problems that they created. If they have better ideas then it is their duty as Americans to make them known instead of silently hoping that the "other guy" loses.

Others expressed deep concern about the president’s proposed budget:

  • Vivi – When did educating our children and taking care of our sick become wasteful spending? We play rescue country to every other place on earth BUT GOD forbid us to help ourselves!!!!!
  • Sherry – The budget is: There is no budget, only a blank check backed by the full faith & credit of our children & grandchildren. America wanted him, America got him.

What are your thoughts on President Obama’s news conference? Do you think we’re headed in the right direction or are we on a course for disaster? Tell us your thoughts about the record budget.

American Morning viewers were focused on the drug legalization story that featured Harvard economist Jeffrey Miron. Most were in favor of legalization, with stipulations attached.

  • Sandra – “I don't know about legalizing Heroin but it sure makes a ton of sense to legalize marijuana. That alone would devastate the Mexican Cartels or, at least, put a good dent in their system.”

Those who opposed the idea were vehement in their rejection.

  • No name – “Your guy has got to be out of his mind!!! I have a sibling who is addicted to alcohol and is now in an assisted living home as she has alcohol induced dementia as a result of drinking too much and adding across the counter medications to the mix!! She is a ward of the state. Great idea…legalize everything! What an Idiot!!!”

What’s your opinion of drug legalization? Do you think it will help solve the financial crisis? Do you think it’s similar to prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s? Share your thoughts with us.

American Morning’s Monday viewers were dissecting Tim Geithner and his plan for banks. Some felt Geitner’s personality was too “nice” for the job of Treasury Secretary. Others simply wanted more detail on Geitner’s plan before the media “condemn” it to failure.

  • Jim -Tim Geitner, to me, appears to be very nice, very smart, brilliant even, and very soft on Wallstreet fatcats. You know... the kind of rich, financial expertise that we need to get rid of if we're going to end this financial crisis. Maybe it's time for Tim to go and be replaced with someone, Democrat or Republican, who knows how to be tough. Tim just has too many buddies to be the effective Treasury Secretary that the President needs to have his vision for the new economy realized.
  • MP – Watching your news show this morning, I was disturbed by your comments re the Geithner plan. Reporters all appeared to condemn the plan to failure before it had even been disclosed and vetted. This is not the unbiased reporting I count on from CNN!

Tell us how you feel. Is Tim Geithner the right man for the job? Are you willing to wait for more details on Mr. Geithner’s plan? Let us know your thoughts.

  • “The Board Members who sit on the Executive Compensation Committee have not been questioned for allowing the company to structure these types of bonuses. This is their fiduciary duty to the shareholders of the company. Why don't we bring them before Congress?”
  • “I think Senator Dodd should be fired for lying about not knowing that AIG execs would get bonus money. Also, any congressman found lying or not paying taxes, should be FIRED from congress for lack of integrity. If I were to lie to my boss, my butt would be on the sidewalk and I would be without a job.”

Do you agree that Board Members should also be held accountable? What about the politicians? Let us know what you think.

  • “I saw President Obama on Leno & I believe it showed how in touch [he is] with the common citizens.”
  • “Are you going to show his gaffe about bowling and the Special Olympics? If it had been a Republican, it would have been on the top of the news!”

What did you think of President Obama’s appearance on “The Tonight Show”? Do you agree with our viewers here? Tell us your thoughts.

American Morning viewers flooded the emails with financial comments and questions regarding mortgages, unemployment, and student loans. Viewers praised CNN for helping to “educate consumers on credit related issues.” Others vented their anger at politicians for what they termed “unbelievably poor jobs they have been doing for the last few years.”

Voicemail

Emails

  • Jason Dean / Elk Grove, CA: Will someone please tell the politicians that it's time they took a pay cut for the unbelievably poor jobs they have been doing for the last few years. It's time they lead by example, oh yeah and give up all there campaign contributions. Thank you.
  • Catherine Woodall / NH: I am so tried of hearing about the outrage from congress concerning the stimulus bill. It is the responsibility of the congress to know what is in the bill before voting on it. There is no excuse for not READING the final draft before voting. If the bill is too large (multiple pages) then the process should be slowed down so the legislatures would have the time to read the final copy.

What are your thoughts on our viewers’ comments? Should politicians take a pay cut for poor performance or for “not reading the final draft [of a bill] before voting?”

American Morning viewers were on the war path for AIG executives’ heads. Questions continued from viewers who remained perplexed by the idea that the company is too big to fail:

Voicemail

Emails

  • Michael – I find it hard to believe we don't know who these 70 plus people are. I can understand not finding Bin Laden, one person, but 70 + people???? Come on... this is not acceptable. If it's that hard, contact "Dog, The Bounty Hunter", I'll bet he could. What's being done to get their names besides having these hearings and asking these greedy, unpatriotic AIG Execs? Yea, unpatriotic, self-centered, scum. FIND These People and plaster their faces all over the news let the American people stand outside their home(s) and harass the hell out of them. Greedy bastards.
  • Jean – Maybe it's just my stupidity, but someone needs to explain to me why the banks failed or are failing, if AIG who insures the mortgage backed securities, has not been allowed to fail. I thought that it was the mortgage backed securities that caused the banks downturn, but now I find out that these are insured – by AIG. AIG has not been allowed to fail, so I don't understand how the problem escalates if the Government has covered them.
