
(CNN) – A blistering heat wave continues to grip much of the Northeast. There may be some relief today from scorching temperatures, but not much. Days of record-breaking, triple-digit heat is putting a strain on the power grid and water supply. Utilities up-and-down the East Coast are pleading with the public to conserve. (CNN) – A scorching, record-breaking heat wave continues to roast much of the Northeast, with the National Weather Service keeping in effect heat advisories in the region until Wednesday evening. In addition, the service has issued an "excessive heat warning" until 8 p.m. Wednesday for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Trenton, New Jersey; and parts of Delaware. (CNN) – The mercury is rising across the country, especially along the eastern seaboard. The National Weather Service is warning of a dangerous situation as temperatures approach and shoot past 100 degrees. In places like the nation's capital and New York City, cooling centers and water stations will be open to the public. For some, it may be just a nuisance. (CNN) – Parts of Rhode Island are still very dangerous today. The water is finally beginning to go down after three days of torrential rain and record flooding, but health officials are warning that the filth left behind could make people sick.
