What's on Tap – Tuesday March 24, 2009

A 500-point bounce on Wall Street!  Investors seemed to like the President's re-tooled financial rescue. Do you?

Here are the big stories we’re following for you today:

  • This morning the best political team is here to preview the president’s prime time news conference.  What does he need to do to sell his budget and economic plan to the American people and lawmakers who say it could bankrupt our county? Plus – a "prebuttal" from the Congressman who's called for the Treasury Secretary's resignation.

We want to know what you would ask the president.   Call in with your questions or just a piece of your mind at 1-877-MYAMFIX, or find us on Twitter.

  • The housing crisis hits God's house – A Washington megachurch is now renting space to worship, after funding dried up for a new 3,000 seat home.
  • No job, no problem – some big companies showing they feel your pain. First Hyndai offers a money-back guarantee to people who’ve lose their incomes. Now details of JetBlue's lifeline for the jobless.

What’s on Tap – Monday March 23rd, 2009

A busy Monday morning.  There’s breaking news. Tragedy in big sky country.  Plus – new details on the bank bailout – and a bonus crackdown.

  • A story developing as we speak: A deadly and fiery plane crash in Montana. More than a dozen people were killed.  Many children are among the victims.  We’re live on scene as the sun comes up and investigators look for answers.
  • The bank bailout – take two.  Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is finally expected to explain how the administration plans to buy up a trillion dollars in toxic assets from banks.  Back on February 10, Geithner gave a bank bailout speech that was short on details. Congress killed it.  Wall Street hated it.  The markets lost hundreds and hundreds of points.
  • Renters kicked to the curb.  You don’t have to own to get hit by the foreclosure crisis.  Many landlords are drowning in debt and they’re pulling tenants under.
  • Getting a raise in a recession.  Personal Finance Editor Gerri Willis has been showing you where the jobs are.  Today she’ll tell you how to make your case for more money.
  • Tough choices for parents whose kids are in private school.  Some are going to extreme measures, even taking out a second mortgage.  Sounds insane in this economy, but parents who want to keep their kids in private school say it's a gamble they're willing to take.
  • And – From working on Wall St… to driving on Wall St.  Many laid-off white-collar workers are now driving taxis to pay the bills, even as many commuters look for cheaper ways to work.

What's on Tap – Friday March 20th, 2009

Happy Friday!  It's the final day of CNN's special Road to Rescue.  We hope it leads you to a better future.
As always, we want your calls, e-mails and “tweets” today.  Anything on the economy is fair game, from foreclosures to the Fed.'s trillion-dollar gamble.

We have a grand finale lined up for you:

  • The big get – Rep. Ron Paul. He is the voice of the resistance on Capitol Hill. He's enraged that the Fed. just created one-trillion-dollars of "new money" – and calls a 90% tax on executive bonuses a "disgrace," a "distraction" and an "outrage" that undermines the Constitution.
  • For those of you who fell asleep after your late local news, we have all the highlights from the president's appearance on Leno last night, including a poor attempt at humor that has people talking today.
  • Plus – Our Fareed Zakaria landed an exclusive with former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer.  He talks about a couple of dirty things – AIG... and his alleged affair with a hooker. We'll have a sneak peek.
  • We also have a special look at why women are key to the recovery. As more men become victims of recession, women are gaining the power of the purse.  They're spending money in places you wouldn't expect and marketers are paying attention. There's even “just-for-women” potato chips now.

What's on Tap – Thursday March 19, 2009

Marching along the Road to Rescue… It’s day four of CNN’s special coverage.
The responses have been great and overwhelming.  You’re helping us help you.  And the verdict is in: You don’t like AIG!

Here’s the lineup of guests helping us make sense of the meltdown today:

  • Bill Adair, Founder of Politifact.com. Some AIG fact or fiction today. Does Congress keep bailing out AIG because it’s insured by AIG??  We find out if there's any truth to that internet rumor.
  • Former Federal Prosecutor Paul Callan on the latest face of greed and corruption – Bernie Madoff’s alleged “rubber stamp boy.”
  • Our own Candy Crowley is dropping by.  No one knows the beltway better.  With some of the AIG outrage being redirected at Congress and the White House, does the president have the political capital to pass a three-trillion dollar budget and even MORE bank bailouts?
  • Plus – the “Fed” is doing something major. It’s throwing another $1,000,000,000,000 right at the heart of the problem. It could make your home payments more sustainable, even more affordable, but are we mortgaging the future for that?

What's on Tap – Wednesday March 18th, 2009

We’re continuing along the Road to Rescue this morning... Some of the biggest names and newsmakers in the economic crisis will join us.

  • Donald Trump – He's getting sued again. He recently said the economy is the worst he's ever seen. Would he fire AIG execs?
  • Senator Charles Grassley – He's the man who said AIG executives should resign or kill themselves. He's now backing off that a bit. Do you agree with him?
  • Congressman Barney Frank – Many say he shares a lot of the blame for helping to put hundreds of thousands of people on the street. Today everyone will be watching Capitol Hill, as he faces off with AIG's CEO.
  • McDonald's menu guru Karen Wells – The golden arches are only shining brighter during the economic crisis. Should there be more affordable healthy food on the menu?
  • We also have Christine Romans and Gerri Willis taking your calls, e-mails and "tweets."

Here's are some of the big stories we're following for you today: FULL POST

What's On Tap – Tuesday March 17, 2009

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

It's Day Two of our special CNN series Road to Rescue. We are breaking down this economic crisis and giving you the information you need to survive.

CNN's Personal Finance Editor Gerri Willis is on Twitter today and answering your questions throughout the show. Follow us at twitter.com/amfix.

Here's some of what's on the show today:

  • Outrage and anger are the watchwords in Washington when it comes to AIG. And that was before it was revealed that executives of the company that received $173 billion in bailout money is handing out $165 million in bonuses to the very people whose incompetence led to the world-wide financial crises. The government agrees that paying bonuses to AIG executives is outrageous, but they also say their hands are tied because they say these are legal, binding contracts. It's as though the American people are being held hostage to the same people who caused the crisis. But some say, wait a minute. If auto worker unions, who did nothing wrong, are being forced to consider massive givebacks, why can't AIG?
