What’s on Tap – Tuesday September 29, 2009

Here are the big stores on the agenda today:

  • Democrats, right now, getting ready for a health care showdown.  At least two senators are now promising to jam a government run insurance provision into the Senate Finance Committee bill.  We're live in Washington, with a debate that's pitting democrats against democrats.
  • Confessions of a domestic terrorist.  A former member of a radical environmental group reveals exclusively to CNN how they waged war against the government and what he did to bring the home-grown terror cell down.
  • And they get paid to dig up dirt, on you.  But what happens when they, make a mistake?  Today in our special series: “Watching You 24/7,” Personal Finance Editor Gerri Willis shows you what happens when data brokers uncover rap sheets on the wrong people.
  • The president’s Olympic push and political gamble. In just a few days, President Obama will travel to Denmark to make a pitch to bring the 2016 Summer Games to Chicago.   It's the first time ever a U.S president has gotten this involved in an Olympic bid.  And it comes as the pile on his desk is getting bigger.

What’s on Tap – Friday September 25, 2009

Here are the big stories on the agenda today.

  • Damning new evidence against the man at the center of a fast-growing terrorism investigation – and more terror arrests in separate alleged plots across the country.  A video obtained exclusively by CNN appears to show Najibullah Zazi buying chemicals, namely hydrogen peroxide from a beauty shop in Denver.  When asked why he needs so much hair care product, a clerk says he answered “I have a lot of girlfriends.”  Zazi is now in federal custody. This is now part of what is being called the most serious plot since 9/11.
  • President Obama is expected to make a statement at 8:30 this morning.  The New York Times is reporting that the U.S., Britain and France will accuse Iran of building a secret nuclear site.  But Iran may have beaten them to the punch.  Tehran sent a letter to the international nuclear watch-dog, the IAEA, admitting that a second nuclear site does exist.
  • “You kids are gonna pay, someday.” We hear older Americans say that every day about health care reform.  But do young people care?  Several polls say they are willing to pay more., but do they really understand what it's going to cost them?  Carol Costello looks at some mind boggling numbers and the fallout for future generations.
  • It’s one of the most amazing gold hauls in history.  And it was by a jobless man with a metal detector.  No, not “that guy” on the beach, but on a farm in Europe.  You have to see it to believe it.

Here are the big stories on the agenda today:

  • President Obama is preparing to do what no U.S. president has done before. He'll be wrapping up the U.N. General Assembly this morning by chairing a Security Council meeting.  And there's only one item on the agenda. A “world without nukes.”  We're live at the U.N. as history unfolds today.
  • It’s a public service announcement that gets right to the point… or maybe, the “peak?”  An ad campaign for breast cancer called “Save the Boobs.”  We’ll show you the video that exponentially lowered productivity in the newsroom this morning.

Here are the big stories on the agenda today:

  • Outrage in a New York City suburb over Libyan Leader Moammar Gadhafi pitching a tent on property Donald Trump owns.  He's in the New York area for the United Nations General Assembly this week.  The State Department says he'll use the tent for entertaining. Full story
  • Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is promising to seek leniency for three American hikers who've been held captive in his country for more than seven weeks.  He'll be addressing the U.N. General Assembly tonight. Those hikers’ mothers sent a letter to Iran’s president.  Did he respond?  One of them will join us live, with her plea.
  • New warnings about an alleged terror plot that targeted trains and subways in New York City.  Authorities say stadiums, hotels and entertainment complexes should also be on high alert... so- called “soft targets.”  We pride ourselves on being an open society.  So, how do we protect these wide open spaces with lots of people coming and going, every day? Jason Carroll is digging deeper this morning. Full story
  • It’s the video you can’t miss this morning.  A parking pole saves a child’s life.  It was the only thing between the car, and a little girl.  The car ended up stuck in the air! And the girl ended up... OK!  And everyone will be talking about her today. Watch
