Lawyer for one Sandusky alleged victim discusses decision to waive hearing, preparation for trial

In a surprising move, Jerry Sandusky waived his right to a preliminary hearing yesterday morning, meaning that his case will go straight to trial.

The former assistant Penn State assistant football coach is facing 52 charges of child rape and molestation stemming from accusations from ten alleged victims.

Tom Kline, attorney for one of Sandusky's alleged victims, joins Carol Costello on American Morning today to discuss how his client reacted to the decision.

Scentists find sign of 'God particle' - Brian Greene explains breakthrough

Yesterday, scientists from CERN, the world's largest particle physics lab, announced that they are closer than ever to finding the so-called "God particle."

Scientists believe that they've spotted hints of this elusive subatomic particle, formally called the Higgs Boson, which is key to an elegant theory explaining how tiny particles work to form all of the matter in the universe.

On American Morning this morning, Brian Greene, theoretical physicist from Columbia University and author of the book "Hidden Reality," explains this discovery and why it is so important to modern physics studies.

Sandusky attorney Joe Amendola: 'There has never been a discussion about a plea'

A stunning move by the defense in the Penn State sex abuse scandal. Former football coach Jerry Sandusky waived his right to a preliminary hearing yesterday, avoiding a dramatic confrontation with his accusers.

This morning on American Morning, Sandusky's attorney Joe Amendola talks with Carol Costello who explains why the decision was made and why it was a surprise.

"We got a major concession on Monday night that which we didn't have prior to Monday night from the Commonwealth not to seek a bail increase pending trial. That was a major concession for us, to keep Jerry Sandusky out on bail so that he can work with his defense team in preparing his defense," Amendola says. "We did not have that until about 9:30 or 10:00 on Monday night. That's the reason we waited until the last minute to waive the hearing. We did not have that concession prior to late monday evening."

Christine O'Donnell explains her endorsement of 2012 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney

Christine O'Donnell, the former Republican Senate candidate and a Tea Party favorite during the 2010 election, announced her endorsement of Mitt Romney for the 2012 GOP presidential candidacy last evening.

Following her announcement, O'Donnell issued a statement that said, "For me, this endorsement comes down to trust. I am endorsing Governor Romney because I trust him to do the right thing. He has the strength of conviction to do the right thing regardless of opposition. America needs a president who is not a Washington Insider."

On American Morning today, O'Donnell sits down with Carol Costello to explain why she supports Romney and to weigh in on whether or not her endorsement will influence the candidate's support among the Tea Party.

AM Minding Your Business for Dec. 14, 2011

Today on American Morning, Christine Romans reports on the morning business news headlines.

This morning, we're watching:

* The Federal Reserve is holding off on any new steps to boost the economy. That announcement yesterday is pushing stocks lower and stock futures are trading pretty flat so far this morning.
* Turns out the housing bust was even worse than we originally thought. The National Association of Realtors reports the number of existing homes sold over the past five years is less than previously estimated. That's because some properties were listed more than once and in some cases new home sales were also counted.
* It's two words we all like to hear. And according to a new report from the National Federation of Independent Businesses – the number of small companies planning to hire new workers is at its highest level in 38 months. Though we should mention that number is still well below pre-recession levels.
* Chrysler, the once troubled carmaker is turning things around. The company's CEO tells the Wall Street Journal they're right now on track to make $3 billion in profit next year. It's all because of rising auto sales in the U.S.
* Southwest airlines inks a record $19 billion deal to buy 208 Boeing 737 jets. That is the largest aircraft order ever placed.

Tune in to American Morning at 6am Eastern every day for the latest in business news.
