Black smoke rising from reactor 3 at Daiichi nuclear plant

Black smoke is rising from reactor 3 at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant and dangerous levels of radioactive iodine have been detected in tap water in Japan.

Lake Barrett is a nuclear engineer who oversaw the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's response to the Three Mile Island accident. Barrett talks to American Morning about the developing nuclear situation in Japan.

Amb. Burns: F-15 crash shows mission in Libya is going to be difficult

A U.S. F-15 fighter jet crashed in a Libyan field, but both Americans on the plane are safe and in U.S. hands.

The United States and allied forces have established a no-fly zone in Libya, but it is unclear what the next step of Operation Odyssey Dawn will be. Ambassador Nicholas Burns is a former Under Secretary of State and is a Professor at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. Amb. Burns talks to American Morning's Kiran Chetry about the United States' current and future role in Libya.

Injured Army 2nd Lieutenant becomes paralympic swimmer

In April, 2004, Army 2nd Lieutenant Melissa Stockwell's convoy in Baghdad was hit by a roadside bomb. Stockwell's leg, which was struck, had to be amputated.

It was during rehabilitation at Walter Reed Medical Center that Stockwell discovered her new passion for swimming. Four years later, Stockwell was competing in the 2008 paralympics in Beijing.

Stockwell talks to American Morning about swimming and her participation in The Hartford's "Achieve without Limits" campaign.

U.S. F-15 fighter jet crashes in Libya

Mechanical failures caused an American war plane to crash in a Libyan field. The pilot and second crew member on the plane are both safe and in U.S. hands.

Retired Major General James "Spider" Marks commanded the Army Intelligence Center and held command positions with the 101st and 82nd Airborne. Major General Marks talks to American Morning about the breaking news out of Libya this morning.
