(CNN) – With college costs skyrocketing and a recession raging, it's not just about getting in to the best school these days. For many students and their cash-strapped parents, prestige is taking a back seat to price. Our Alina Cho reports for the first part of a week-long series, "The Cost of College."

Arizona wants to reassign teachers with accents
(CNN) – It's been a month since Arizona passed its controversial immigration law that sparked protests from coast to coast. Now, state education officials want immigrant teachers with heavy accents removed from classes for students who are still learning English. They say they are following federal guidelines set up by the Bush administration in 2002, but critics are calling it an ethnic witch hunt. Our Thelma Gutierrez looks at the new debate in this AM original report.
BP under fire over oil spill
(CNN) – Dozens of ships are now headed to the spot where a ruptured well is spewing crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico. In two days, the crews on those vessels will attempt to plug the gusher using mud and cement. It's a high-risk procedure called a "top kill." If it fails, we could be dealing with this disastrous leak for months.
Doug Suttles, BP's chief operating officer for exploration and production, joined us on Monday's American Morning for an update on the progress.

Mixed messages as frustration mounts over Gulf oil spill
(CNN) – Two top Obama administration officials head to Louisiana on Monday to assess the response to the massive oil spill as the administration sends mixed messages about BP's effort to cap the gusher.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will accompany a group of Republican and Democratic senators on a flyover of the affected areas. They'll also meet with BP representatives and community leaders.
Salazar expressed frustration Sunday with the delay in stopping the spill into the Gulf of Mexico, saying BP has "from day one, frankly not fulfilled the mission it was supposed to fulfill." Read more

Why did intelligence chief step down?
(CNN) – There's new information today about threats against Americans. The Pakistani Taliban, blamed for the Times Square bombing attempt, may be trying again.
It may not be a good time to have a vacancy at the very top of our terror fighting community, but that's exactly what we have right now after Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair announced he's stepping down. CNN contributor Fran Townsend was former President Bush's homeland security adviser and is an unpaid member of the CIA's advisory board. She joined us on Friday's American Morning.
